Pre-School, Pre-K, & Transitional/Private Kindergarten Curriculum
A Beka is a Bible based curriculum
that we use beginning at age 18 months. This material offers a very colorful way
to teach your children things like basic language arts, numbers and Bible
lessons. There is also a basic reading program called 'Six
Easy Steps to Reading' for the four year olds. A Beka preschool
curriculum gives you the opportunity to fully prepare your child for
kindergarten beginning as young as eighteen months old. There is an excellent
phonics program used to develop superior reading
skills. Nursery Arts and Crafts is designed to teach children ages 18-24 months
colors and shapes and to develop hand-eye coordination.
Beginning with age two, they learn vowel and consonant sounds and
recognition of lower and upper case letters.
By age four they will learn to blend phonic sounds, pronounce one
and two vowel words and read through as many as 10 books. In addition to writing
skills they, develop language & listening skills that include color words,
shapes, animals, transportation, countries, community helpers, health, safety,
manners and science. Twenty eight poems and finger plays are committed to memory
and they will learn their numbers 1-100 and learn basic addition facts.
Children at age five will learn number words, the value of coins
and dollars, telling time, using the calendar, days of the week, addition facts
through 10, beginning subtraction, one-step story problems and counting by twos.
Students will study many subjects in science, including seeds, animals and the
seashore. They will learn about the weather, the seasons and a health and human
biology series. Social studies will include lessons on community helpers,
children of the world, and America, our great country. This series will
introduce the children to map studies, famous Americans and famous places in
America.
Through the Kindergarten program children will be reading with
amazing proficiency, developing cursive writing skills, learning to use capital
letters and periods. Their studies will include health and human biology and the
science of earth and space. We are sure that with the "A Beka" curriculum, your
child has one of the essentials necessary for a superior preschool education. We
also utilize the “Your Child Can Read” early
language development system.
We promote a non-Montessori teaching/curriculum.
